Butterfly Fish?

Can anyone tell me what kind of other fish can live with Butterfly Fish?

i mean, i know that other surface fish shouldn't be mixed with it and this fish is pretty predatory but i still fancy one also.

Angelfish would be fine with a butterfly fish.
Butterfly fish arent aggressive towards anything too big to fit in their mouth, apart from other butterfly fish...and sometimes hatchet fish...

yera would think hatchet fish wouldn't even be worth asking about lol considering they don't really do anything apart from float about.

do butterfly fish only stay at the surface or do they venture around the tank?

They mainly stay at the surface, but sometimes they rest in plants lower down in the tank.
Hatchet fish are actually very active fish IME .
Butterfly fish on the other hand don't move all day until you feed them or another fish bothers them.
If you don't like hatchet fish, you will find butterfly fish very boring .

Yea but at lfs's i've seen 10-15
in a tank not even bothering each
other

Yeh, generally in shops they are fine, but when they are settled in an aquarium for a while they can be aggressive to each other for some reason.

Butterfly fish are by no means boring IMO, but they are no where near as active as hatchet fish, so pinkdolphin_113 likely would find them boring .

I'm setting up a tank and plan to have a butterfly fish.. I'm hoping tankmates will include rainbowfish and a spiney eel Just look at heaps n heaps of species of fish and if you find one you like, see if it is compatible (not aggressive and larger than 2 inches)

I've seen angel fish and butterfly fish live together.. my friends mom had 2 BIG angel fish and 2 good size butterfly fish all together in a 20 gallon box tank and I felt really bad for them cause they could hardly move and stuff. Eventually one butterfly fish ate an angel fish then the other angel fish ate the last 2.

How big do butterfly fish get?
We saw some this weekend at the petstore when we were buying some plants and my bf just went crazy over them (there were 2 in the plant tank).
They were very pretty but looked like they probably grow pretty large?

Not really, 4" max i think.

I really want some but i dont think they would mix with barbs with those trailing lower fin struts
