Butterfly Catfish

i saw that also ! ummmm not sure i can help anymore! :/

Okay, now that I have fixed what I messed up let me see what we can figure out .

Pantodon Buchholzi ( Peters / Butterfly Fish )

Range : tropical west Africa

Habits : Harmless towards other fishes, but better kept by itself to prevent damage to their filamentous ventral fin extensions.

water quality : soft, slightly acidic water is preferable. the tank should not be heavily planted, it must have a large surface and be covered. Temps. 23 - 27*c

Size : to 10cm

Food requirements : Prefers live insects but it can be trianed to take bits of shrimp.

Pantodon buchhozi is the only species in this genus, and the genus Pantodon is the only one in the family Pantodtidae. Its appearence is also unique.
The upturned mouth tells us that it is a surface feeder, and the size of the mouth is an indication that not only mosquitos and flies but also larger beetles that can be handled with ease.
The large pectoral fins, which when outspread resemble a butterfly's wings, can be used for glidding over short distances in much the same manner as the oceanic flying fishes.
the butterfly fish inhabits weedy, slow flowing pools where it lies almost motionless near the surface and waits for it's pray to pass by.

there tahs the little I know about them. Have kept many of them and IMO they can be nippy towards small fish. And mine ate small minnows, moths, pill bugs, spiders, just about all types of insects,

hope this helps,
Danny

if you fixed it why is this topic still here! i thought it catfish , seem to be a butterfly fish topic ( not the catfish one)

Okay I did decide to move the topic being it really is NOT a catfish. And I felt it would get more attention here. Sorry for any confusion it may have caused.
Danny

cry....... :p :p :p :p :p :D

We've got one of those gorgeous fish
He had a problem with getting his fair share of food when he first arrived. The livebearers would come to the top to grab the floating food and at first he used to back off. After a week or two he 'found his feet' and barges into the crowd to get his share.:)
