Butterfly Catfish

Hello peeps.

I got myself a butterfly Catfish about three weeks ago to put into my 45 gallon tank and he hardly ever moves is allways by the filter and tall plants why is this

This is him. Not the best picture because he is even more ugly in the flesh but i love him

rite this an african butterfly fish its a predatory fish best keep with similar fish ie top and middle swimmers needs a tank larger than 24" they get about 4-5 inches if i remember. And also as far as i know its not a catfish! it is form the Family: PANTODONTIDAE. part of the Osteoglossiforms family species.
There is a butterfly catfish but its not this one! Hara hara (Butterfly catfish)

Very pretty fish IMO. And fairly easy to care for. they like live foods and DO jump so keep the lid closed at all times. They always hang towards the top and are mild mannered. If kept with other fish they may get there fins nipped alittle.
it will eat anything it can fit into its mouth so try not to keep little guys with him or........ GULP ! IMO they are really nice fish. ugly? maybe just a tad. LOLOLOL

my lfs had it down as a butterfly catfish and so do some websites. I have a few mild mannered chiclids in the tank and it is fine they leave him well alone. He is currently about 2.5 inches in body length and i love him. Ugly yes but he is an aquired taste. He doesnt swim about much thou

oh and ive been told he will be fine in my current 45 gallon setup as long as i dont put other top swimmers in the tank

well the catfish is called hara hara and the pic u think is a catfish butterfly is not! so u have the afican butterfly fish. not many lfs actually name 100% fish rite let alone 50% hwo much you pay for him! was he sitting at bottom of tank when u got him or swimming at the top!

i paid £4.00 for him and they were all at the top of the tank

top of the tank then its the african butterflyfish, the hara hara(and expensive) sits mainly on the bottom waiting for prey to come to him and they have a big mouth as well lol not sure why urs is not moving, how many you got?

everything ive read has said the same but can be agresive to other top fish
