Hiya,

Just wondering what the rules are here about bumping threads?

Most forums prohibit it, but I see a lot of bumpery going on here.

Is it allowed then?
And if it is perhaps you should consider disallowing it as I think it is kind of rude people thrusting their threads to the top like that.

I dont disagree with it as far as it goes, but my god some people bumping threads after 30 mins is getting to be a bit of a joke

Yeah after 30 min's is a bit of a joke but other things like the emergrnecy section and the sales section thosepost do need bumped as people aren't on here everyday and the amount of posts that happen in those sections in 24hours is unreal

I've seen as little as 5 mins.

There isn't an official policy, I just kind of play it by ear when I see it. It is tough to write a blanker rule, as the emergencies section does contain real live emergencies at times and you don't want to see your post slipping if you really do need help.

That said, the flipside is that the forum is 100% volunteers and that you have to be fair to the membership that has jobs, has school, and has a life outside of the forum. Bumping to me almost always seems kind of bossy like the forum owes the person something.

Like I said above, I always play it by ear. 24 hours (especially in a busy forum) seems okay to me, but 30 mins seems too quick. So, my personal time limit is somewhere between those two numbers.

Fair enough.

Thanks for clearing things up.

I too think it screams rude bossyness to bump a thread after 30 mins, but I can understand someone bumping a thread in an emergency.

I give you this thread as an example, it was this thread that made me consider your policy or lack thereof, and please don't think I mentioned it because the poster was a bit rude to me.
I don't care about that, Iam a big boy and can take it! I just thought a bump after 30 mins was a bit much.

Excessive bumpery

hmm hacks me off too, tho i think its acceptable in emergencies and too a point in sales, but one particular member at the moment is getting a little bump happy, and from what i see another member is telling him in no uncertain terms.. go jen

As with other minor annoyances, it's always best to click on the "Report" button and tell a mod about it. Bumping, like typing in CAPS is a minor thing, and some members don't know it's considered poor forum etiquette. Please don't spoil a thread by going off topic to make a rude comment on it. :D

I agree with the bit's about 30mins or so, however sometimes it helps as some people just look at the first page and thats it, iam gulity of this, Selling thing's for example you maybe needing shot of something quick so it pays to bump the item back up again :good:
