building sand ok?

I have a ton of building sand left over from a home project. Would it be a problem to use in a tank. What would be the best way to wash it?

is it the orange sand?
If so the answer is no as building sand often has chemicals in it that help bond it to cement etc.

Its a tan color. i think it is the same type stuff people use in sand boxes not sure though.

No, I would only use either play-pit sand or aquarium sand. I don't think its worth the risk.
