Building A Stand For 14Ft X 4Ft Tank

Hi, I have now virtually finished converting my Garage into a fish room. In a couple of weeks I will be building a stand right round the walls for all the tanks. The problem is I will be putting a 14 x 4ft tank along one of these walls on it. Will it still be safe to build the stand from wood. I can always double up on the framework if needed, but any advice would be welcome as my Dad's building this. He's good at building them, just not sure he knows the weight this tank will carry properly

What's the height of the tank?  If you can work out the volume you can work out the weight (of water - substrate and rock may weigh more).
 
Have you considered using dense breeze blocks?

Breeze Blocks did cross my mind, but may want to get a sump underneath yet. it's 2ft high.

3171 litres = 3171 kilos or 6990 pounds as you've stated.  3 metric tons is a lot of weight.  Know any structural engineers?

Yeah its pretty tough, was worse as I had a load of tanks in it as it was being insulated. Less than ideal. Virtually done now tho, as soon as I get a chance I will update that thread, looks completely different now
