Hi, I am building a computer around Christmas time for gaming and I want to know if it's better to go amd or intel? I know amd are good but apparently the new intel are the best.

thanks

The Newest intel is 'the best' (for now) However im sticking with the AMD chips. I have no doubt AMD will strike back with something nice Lol

The new duo core chips are the best out now, but AMD will soon come out sith something with comparable performance. The thing is that when they do it will have petter power consumption specs. That's why I always buy AMD because I'm a student and usually have notebooks. My Turion 64 is great, blows the centrino's that were out when I bought it away. The battery life and temperature levels can't even be compared. I'd look up when AMD plans to release it's answer to the duocore.

What are set up are you using at present demonmagus ?

Might be worth just doing a slight upgrade while waiting to the new AMD chip.

How much have you got to spend mate ? You can get a decent rig for £500 but dont expect top specs.

The machine im on now

AMD 3500+
ATI X1600
1GB RAM
200GB

Cost around £600 however had it ready built for me. You could easily get a similar and probably alot better for around £500 sourcing bits yourself mate.

For that you can get almost any build you want Lol.

I have just done the following

AMD duel core FX60
2GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1900 XTX 512mb

Very quick and very happy with it all. Sourced all the goods myself and put together for £600. With the extra £300 you could get more RAM another 2GB and another Graphics card Lol. Now that would be a beast !!

Sorry, I assumed you bought off the net. Anyway just want to know should I hold out and wait? or buy the new intel chip

also just realised, if AMD do make a killer chip to kill intel's chip, it will most likely be socket am2 right?

I bought it all of Ebay mate. some second hand some new. Not the best way it do it but its worked out alright for me :)

Do what you will mate but you wont have much change after buying the intel chip Lol. Think its around £700. Might be well off but im sure its something like that Lol.
