Just finished a water change on my 300l community tank and I discovered tiny bugs floating on the surface, they looked dark brownish and they jumped! really suprised to see them as I thought the fish would have eaten them, just dont know what they could be.

could they be young pond skaters

waaaaaayyy to small to photograph (even if I had a camera) the nearest thing I can think of to discribe them as is the red spider mite (see them on walls usually) but these were brownish and were on the surface of the water, and they jumped!!! its making me itch thinking about them.

Hiya Bae definately not pondskaters mate, way too small.

daphnia???

Definately not daphnia, just looked up springtails not those either, just checked the tank again and they have all dissapeared?????? I am wondering if they were under the lip of the tank and got washed in as I was re-filling the tank, fish have eaten them by the look. The nearest thing I can find is some sort of aphid?? I do have a potted plant on top of the tank I wonder if there is something in the soil in the plant and they have taken up residence under the hood of the tank.

I know what you mean, its like jumping small grains of micro brown sugar
I get these in my channa tank, esp in warmer weather!!Ive had these now for four or five years...had no problems with them so wouldnt worry

Oh thank you Nelly mate, I am having a fruit hear thinking I am going to have to strip all the tanks.

I've had them too, they like to sit on duckweed leaves like a frog on a lilypad.

I really wouldn't worry, just a cool little ecosystem you've got!
