Bugs In My Tank But Not The Water

so ive had this strange colony of very small bugs, like maybe 1-2mm in length, on my aquarium hood glass and around where hte glass top sits on the tank edge. However, they die and drown if they go into the water. I know they are feeding on the algae that accumulates on my tank hood.

I think its rather facinating, where did these little guys come from, the tank has always been in doors.

Maybe water lice? I feel like I remember seeing these in an aquarium of mine years ago. I never did anything to treat them and they seem to have gone away on their own. If you discover anything else be sure to let us know!
