Bubble Nest

My Alpha has finally made a bubble nest! I was beginning to question whether he was happy or not.

My Polo has never built a nest (which is a pain as i am planning on breeding him!) where as Prince and Jovi build new ones every other day.

I am certain Polo is happy as he is always swimming about and dancing when someone walks by

Yea, I just googled bubble nest and apparently some males will make them all the time, others just sometimes and some not at all!

I have some that make a new nest almost every day and then I have some that never make nests. While having a bubble nest is a sign of happiness, not having one is not necessarily a sign of unhappiness or that something is wrong. Some Betta's will only make a few per year. I try not to worry about it. It can also have a lot to do with the type of filter you are using and the amount of current in the tank. High current can actually deter a Betta from building a nest.

You can always tell an unhappy Betta, they are sluggish, sleep alot, are inactive, or exhibit other sicky symptoms like finrot or ich.

Yea, I agree. My other guy Bravo is on the filter side and he hasn't made a nest at all. He is just as active as Alpha though, so I don't really think he is unhappy. On a plus, yesterday I saw Alpha adding to his nest, which was pretty cute.

It is a neat behavior to watch. =)

I heard that this is when they are ready to mate and they make the nest to protect the eggs,
not to sure though.
