Bubble Algae

Although bubble algae is considered a nuisance in the tank, it's rate of growth truly makes it a low threat. IMO, it gets more press than needed. Yes..it should be removed carefully when possible but I never panic about it.

The bubbles, however, is one of the early signs of cyanobacteria, or slime algae. The bacteria trap gas and is can be a pathognomonic sign. How old is your tank? Cyano occurs typically in immature tanks and is one reason why new nano'ers should stock their tanks with coral immediately after cycling has completed.
