Bt Or Virginmedia

So basically, I have a choice to make, stick with Virginmedia and hope that their fibre optic rollout will eventually hit me (It's hit nearly everywhere around me, just not my town ) Or switch to BT Infinity (FTTC) service which will increase my download speed 5 times and increase my upload over 10 times, anyone have anything to add? experiences from these services or more rollout information?

i'm on Virgin and get great service from them. I am near the output box though, it's across the road from my house. The further you are away, the slower your net.

I'm with BT, have been for years & never had any problems.
My daughter is with Virgin, she has the phone, tv & net with them & I've never heard her say there's been any problems.
I suppose it's down to price, & whether you get unlimited use

Thanks for the replies, but I'm more looking on response to the actual BT infinity package and Virgin Cable Plans, rather than general user feedback . Just 32Mb downloads in my area sounds too good to be true, even if they are FTTC. In my experience Virgin have been terrible to be honest, but I've never had another choice until BT Infinity.

BT Or Virgin, Either you way you will get a good enough speed to access the internet BUT theres flaws.

BT is good, Depending on were you are, you need to be close to the exchange or the chances are your going to make or receive a phone call and you loose the internet due to low bandwidth... but as far as i can see this is the only downpart, connection is cheap and bills are no higher than £20 - 30 a month depending on what package you opt for.

Virgin media is also good with there high speeds, people offen believe that faster is better, well sorry to say this but your ALL wrong, I work with servers, let me tell you this, If you buy 50MB from virgin, the chances are unless you have a friend that is on the same node as you or lives across the road your NEVER going to use it.

When connecting to popular websites such as facebook, twitter, youtube you barly use 1 - 2mbps to stream media, thats because the server over the wan is caped to serve you no more than 1 - 2mb, your not capped but the server is, so your never going to download at no more than 5 - 6mb a second and even if you do, questions will be raised and your liable to get capped from 50mb to 10mb untill they find out what you have been downloading to cause a network lag.

Virgin media also have this thing called "Charge the customer as much as you can" and they do, what seems to be a £30 package quickly turns into £60 so make sure you cover all the terms before making a decision unlike BT.

So there you have it, make a wise decision, Im not telling you to move to virgin, or bt because of this, You need to make your own decision based on what your going to do with the broadband, at the moment BT seems reasonable.

I've had Vermin for 8 years.
overall, they offer a good service.
speeds have always been close to claims (10mb ran 9-9.8. 20m runs 16-19.9) the recent upload speed up (now 1.5m) though i to am only feet from their box. never mind the vermin hub, in Leicester.
its also proved incredibly reliable, which is good as the call center is useless, and engineers never turn up.

as i said, I'm not too keen on their customer service though. I also dont trust them with a variable bill!

But I'm looking at Infinity, when it reaches me. I cant see the download being that much better, but the upload boost will be great.

as you aint on "fibre". over all, I'd plump for the BT offering.

Yeah thanks to both of you, I'm kind of leaning towards Infinity. I wish the companies would be more open about their plans to expand, it'd definitely save them a few customers.

the logic of BT Infinity only being available in BT Infinity areas. seems inescapable, to me.
