Rabid Betta Activist
My mom made a huge mistake: she left an extra tank with me when she brought up the tank I requested for my most recent betta (that one was a rescue; plakat who was in the store for 4 weeks and developing fin rot and gill inflammation). Having a terrible lack of self control, I was soon just twitching to fill this extra tank with something. I went to Petsmart thinking of buying plants only, so I could grow them in the extra tank for later use on my bettas. Then... a saw HIM.
The cup was so dirty I had to really look to make sure I was seeing my colors right. And I was; a brown betta, with kindof orangey-brown fins, streaked in blue on the ends. I'm a huge sucker for all things brown, and was immediately fixated on the duller-looking fish. One of the employees came over and noticed me eyeing him, and mentioned that he'd been there since two shipments ago, and she finally moved him up front since no one seemed interested. I guess most people aren't that in to brown (in fact, the cashier said "well he kindof defeats the purpose of a betta, now doesn't he" when he saw the color. ), but I sure am, so I had to snatch him up. I know, bad bad me.
Anyhoo, in the picture, you can see that he does have some blue iridescence that shows up on his sides in the flash, but with no flash and regular tank lighting, he is dirt brown with orangey-brown fins. And he has some blue to one of his eyes and the tips of his fins.
Truly a find if I do say so myself, even if it IS a VT. Oh, and he's not as... fat looking as he appears in the pic; he was in the process of turning when I took it, and it made him look rather bulky.
