I've had a tank up and running for about 3 weeks and a few days ago I started seeing little brown spots (what I assume to be algae) and the tank walls, the plants, and the filter. Is this normal, and if it is, will it go away? Is there anything I can do?

Yes it fairly normal in a new tank. It will usually go away in a few weeks all by itself or you can manually remove it from the class with an algae scraper/brush and from the plants by gently using your fingers and sliding the leaf between them. HTH :)

:flex: ♂ Brown algae does not necessarily go away easily, or in a few weeks. It can gradually get worse if your tap water is high in phosphates or silicates. If you find it is getting worse, and if you have a filter that will allow it, put in a phosphate remover like PhosX or PhosGuard. As brown algae starts to disappear, you may find you're getting more green algae, which is a healthier tank situation if it's not excessive.

Brown algae is normal in most new tank, just after the cycle is completed.. but if you have enough light in your tank is will go away in a week or two, but you'll need to clean if ever 4th day as it might get out of control, aswell.
