Hi guys.

My tank has now been up and running 3 months, including a one month fishless cycle. Over the last month brown algae has covered my ocean rock. I have tried to clean it all off but it just pops back up within a week. I am hoping to get green algae going as I know thats what the fish like.

Today in an effort to clean the rock I soaked a piece in boiling water. To my surprise as soon as the water hit it all the algae turned green.... does this mean that the algae in my tank isn't getting enough oxygen or something? how can I get rid of the brown and promote the green?

Any help greatly appreciated....

Brown algea is common in new tanks it will alst a few weeks and then seems to go over night. :good:

Yeah it normal.
I havn't put it in boiling water so i dont know if its notmal :/

If you leave the lights on longer that will help it :good:

To promote algae up your lighting and ammonia if there are no fish, you will get more diatoms and possibly cyanobacteria too though.
