So, just curious, what do you plan on doing with them once they get too big for your tank? Fish fry?

Ah thanks Glad you like them!!They look stunning, thanks for posting close ups
I get it. I hear of these things happening and it always seems so drastic. But at least you've saved a handful. They're so beautiful.
My husband and I have talked about starting a "native" tank with punkinseed sunnies and such. They're so gorgeous and I think they'd be a lot of fun to have!

Native biotopes can be so much fun and there are so many beautiful fish to be had! I just imported some 'green' (wild) swordtails from Mexico. These fish are simply beautiful, lively and very hardy. They need lots of space though as the males are more agressive than the hybrid ones. The friend I gave them to had put a group of 6 in a 50 gallon and had to separate 2 males as the tank size was not big enough!
But can you imagine: a trio of these swordtails with some gambusia? Would be lovely and no heating required....
There are actually wild Black sailfin mollies, and a few different species of platies here too..People released them illegally into some of our warm springs and they flourished..We went and caught some of those too and put them in a small tank of my son's with a heater and they are doing awesome..Lot's cheaper then getting them from the lfs too.. lol
