Hi,

Yesterday I bought a bronze cory. It seemed to settle in very quickly and seemed to be a lot more active than I thought it would. However, today he isn't moving very much at all and tends to move from one corner of the 10 gal fish tank to the other. He doesn't seem to be feeding much either. He doesn't seem to be injured.

Do cory's tend to do this? or is he sick? or do they just tend to rest/sleep alot? Could he be lonely and is it worth getting another one for company?

Any help would be appreciated.

They tend to do this as normal behaviour. Next time you feed, watch for a few minutes - He should liven up. :) To be honest, you shouldnt keep corys in groups of less than 6, so I would reccomend buying AT LEAST 2 more, if you can't, re-homing may be the best option.

Hi shereezy :)

You absolutely need to get a few more corys as companions to the one you have.

Corys are schooling fish and if kept by itself, it will be frightened and lonely. Corys interact with each other and, assuming it's healthy, you should see a big difference in its behavior once it has more of its kind in the tank.

I think the cutest thing to watch is when you first add another and they find each other.

I have one bronze and 5 peppered, and they do behave differently, the Bronze likes to sit on things and watch, you often get the feeling you are being watched and turn round and he's just sitting up against the glass looking at you while the other cories potter round doing their thing somewhere else in the tank.

Definately get it buddies though, they are very cute fish, I love watching mine swim in their little gang.

Hi SuzieQPlecMama :)

Your bronze cory would be more playful too if you get him a few friends of his own kind. :D

I agree. My Bronze and Albino C. Aeneus are always swimming the tank, hardly ever still. The only time they are still is when all the othe cories are still and resting and they all tend to stay together in the corners of the tank. They seem to get even more active when I turn the lights on when I get home from work everyday. Right now I have 6 Bronze (2 very small) and 4 Albino and I plan to increase that count in the future

hello i also have a bronze cory,
and yes i knowi should get a few more for it but intill i rehome my fish (what wont really be for a little while as this is my first atempt at tropical fish keeping and am on a sort of trial pirod bfore a can get larger tank)
my question is what other cat fish could go well with it?
i take that the albino cory would prob be fine (right?!?)

is there any other types of catfish?

The Albino Cory you are probably talking about is actually the same as the Bronze, just without the color. I dont think its a good idea to put cories with any really big catfish, especially if the cory doenst have any other of its own kind in the tank.

Also, you were talking about rehoming some fish to make more room for some bronze cories and you were also asking about getting different catfish to go with it. Is this after you move the other fish? I wouldnt buy any other fish until you get everything sorted out and room in the tank.

Good Luck

Hi Phoenixfish :)

All the different corys get along well with each other, but to really make them happy and more active, get at least 3 of the same kind before you think of getting a different species. Bronze and albino corys are usually the same species (C. aeneus) and you can mix and match them if you want.

I agree with Barracuda518. It's best not to mix corys with other kinds of big catfish. :D

thanks and ive already heard warnings about larger cat fish,
when i get the chance ill get some more bronze (dont perticulaly like the albino ones as much)

also is it a good idea to try to feed it v thin slices of cucumber this early? and if so is there any way of "help feed his greens" i.e. tips and tricks (i also have two albino tiger barbs)

Hi Phoenixfish :)

I wouldn't suggest feeding your corys cucumbers. Them might nibble them, but most of it will go to waste and pollute the water. IMHO, giving them Hikari Bottom Feeder Wafers of Wardley's Spirulina Discs are a better way to be sure they get their veggies. :D
