hello...I hav recently bought a BN and wondered if i can put some water conditioner salt (also with dechlorinator) every time i change the tank water...Would the salt harm bristlenoses??? And 4 those hu own BN's, is their any special advice u can give me on how 2 make this fish thrive...Thankyou for any responses and advice.
P.S. i hav had bad incidents with 2 of my previous BN's...i dno wat had happened but b4 they died, ther faeces had blood on them...So in case my new BN had this symtom, is ther n e way to help it??? Once again thankyou.

Hi,

Salt and bristlenose plecs don't mix, did your past ones have sinking food and vegetables to eat as they easily clear a tank of algae then they may starve. Mine love to eat slices of cucumber and algae wafers. They have also in the past eaten broccoli, courgette and lettuce, i feed i variety of sinking foods as there are a lot of bottom feeders in the tank with them.

Emma :D

Ye, mayb starvation wuz the case 4 my previous BN's death... n ye, i think i can visibnly c that it wuz thin...but im not cruel even 2 fish and i feed them every day with a sinking pellet...My previous BN wuz eating fine 4 bout a week eating the pellet everyday but it suddenly just stopped eating and everyday it goes weaker and i don't knw wat to do...yes, i clean my water weekly, it just sad wen the 1st symtoms of blood coming out n i don't know wat to do...So do u tink feeding n algae pelet n a treat of vegetables weekly ONLY AT NITE wen da tank lights are off would help my new bristlenose eat n become less threatened by other fish and people outside the tank...The only problem i hav of that is that my bristlenose mayb won't be able 2 find its food at night...In your opinion or any others, do u think the bristlenose would be able 2 find its food even at the dead of nnight??? Once again thankyou.

Hi,

They won't have any problems finding food in the dark. If you feed it at night at least it will have a chance before your other fish eat all the food.

Emma :)

Thanks emma12321...One more question about my bristlenose...I heard that they are hardy fish...I just wanted 2 know if siphoning my gravel daily wud harm my BN...i also wanted 2 make sure that it wud not hurt the BN or make it stressed out each time i clean the tank...I want 2 siphon my tank daily because i tink i still hav some salt in my tank (another cause of my previous BN's death)...I did a siphon yesterday...Is it ok 2 siphon the tank again today just 2 make sure more salt comes out (meaning less salt in the tank)...If I siphon it again 2day, from then on, il just siphon it weekly...Again thankyou for the advice and this time i hope my BN will thrive and do well :)
P.S. And wen i feed lyk an algae disk at night and then the following morning its gone...how do i know that it's not my gourami and tiger barbs hu ate it since they really love those algae disk... I sure hope they can't c it at nite :/ Once again...thankyou for ur help and advice...i never knew these things (like the salt, feeding at night etc) until u told me) so thankyou...
