Well, I went to my uncles from Wednesday to today( Sat.) so, I left praying my family wouldnt kill all 3 tanks off. I came home today, and did some water cahnges. I noticed that my pleco's were hiding. I lifted up the males cave, and was a HUGE mass of eggs sitting there, with the male guarding them. So, I called the guy I boguht the bristlenoses from, and he told me to take the female out, as she will try to eat the fry, when the eggs hatch. So, I did that. Anything else Im missing? IM SOOOOO EXCITED!

I've never had problems with the plecs eating the eggs, the male will guard the eggs anyway and fan them with oxygen from the water. Only if the male is unexperienced will he kick the eggs out. Only thing to watch out is fish that might eat the eggs.

My female has never tried to eat the eggs. Even if she did try, the male would chase her off. He always gets upset when the Rubbernose goes into the cave, and almost immediately, the Rubbernose will fly out of the cave with Sir Burton hot on his tail, huffing mad.

I would just pay attention to any fish who will use the newly hatched babies as snack food.

I've never had a female try to eat the fry either, and since there is no fish in there that does, the babies started coming out a lot earlier than usual and the male is already sitting on a new batch.

Now so don't know what to do. The guy I talked to has been breeding the for 15 years. I just don't want the female seeing them as meals on fins!

I have been breeding Bristlenoses for years with no problems.I always leave the female in with the eggg/fry & males.

If you've already taken her out its not going to make a difference if you leave her out. Thats one thing I like about the BNs, I can leave them in with Kribensis fry and they wont eat any. Its rare to find fish that wont take a free snack.

Edited for terrible typing! - Twice!

As a few other posters have said u neednt worry bout the mother eating fry or egss... ive got 2 females and one male in my tank and they dont bother with the young at all :)

Way to go! I always leave the female, haven't had a problem. Once the fry are wandering about you can put her back in.

Thanks! Did you get the message I left you? I was just thanking you for the Peat, as I tihnk this is what made them spawn( they havent before). The eggs havent hatched yet, I checked( overly curious).
