Hi , I have been looking at various Bristlenose Plec. I have seen advertised "Red & Black" , does anyone know what they are? Any pics , have tried various websites but I'm obviously looking in the wrong place.
Any correspondence greatly appreciated :good:

More than likely calico BN's

Yep just sounds like a colour morph :good: Albino are often sold as Reds and the standard bristlenose sold as blacks or chocolates.

Speaking of black, can you get a bristlenose that is black, not brown or dark olive but black ?

my breeding pair are black, they do get some brown when theyre off colour/ camouflaged (sp) but on a whole are black with white tips

That would be nice, I have seen three pictures of what I think is a black bristlenose with lots of tiny spots on it, wasn't sure if it was the exposure of the shot or the lightin that made it so dark but it looked like a really nice plec. Couldn't figure out how to resize the third one...

I have 3 'calico' BNs, which are essentially just orange where a common BN would be white. They're quite attractive fish though, can't wait for mine to grow up!
I've not seen them too often though, perhaps not that common?

I also have two very darkly coloured BNs - they're much much darker than my other 'brown' bristlies, although I wouldn't call them black. They have a fine sprinkling of small even white spots, much smaller white spots than commons too.

As I understand it, the name 'Bristlenose' covers a fair few of different Ancistrus sp.?
So it would make sense that you can get lots of different varieties.
