Bristlenose Has Eggs!

Dad will not eat until the eggs have hatched which takes around 4-10 days and will then stay with the fry for 7-10 days after they hatch. Once the eggs have hatched he may or may not nip out to feed - mine never did until the fry left the cave. If you are putting courgette in keep an eye on it as if its not being eaten you dont want it to go off and make the water quality bad which could kill the fry.

Thanks for all the info guys. I went and bought a cucumber today. Everything is still pretty quiet in the tank. Dad hasn't emerged at all.

I'll keep you posted.

Cucumber is no good - it has no nutritional value at all. Best to use peeled courgette, mine also like sweet potato, dark green veg (softned slightly in the microwave) red peppers and bananas. Of course feed algae wafers , flake and frozen live foods, (especially important for the female) but experiment with fruit and veg as all BN have different likes and dislikes.

You should also have bogwood in your tank which they will graze on and need for their digestion system.

Funny, I raised 300 fry from my last batch on mainly Cucumber

They would have been getting their nutrition from algae wafers, flake and live foods if you were feeding as well (which you should - they should never be fed just a diet of cucumber). Best to feed a variety as already mentioned and they will let you know what they like ! Very important to feed dad well when he emerges as he will be starving!

They would be getting different nutrients form algea wafers and flake food, you never have to feed Ancistrus babies live food, they are not like corydora babies

Oh and by the way, "Cucumber is no good, it has no nutritional value at all", wrong, it has plenty of great stuff in it, it is just not enough for a Human to survive
