Hey all!

I have aprox 50 bristlenose eggs in my community tank at the moment with no ability to move them to a safe fry tank. In the same tank are two angels and a pictus, what are the chances of any survivals? there is alot of hiding places for them as well which may help.

From the pictus when lights are out not much chance at all, what ever he misses the angels will probably get :(

you should be ok, make sure there's lot's of hiding, one of my batch's sirvived with my own breeding pair of angel's,the male should stay with them and protect them even from the female, also fans them constantly

It's a Rio 180 tank with roughly 10 or so hides, including coconut shells with tiny entrances. With any luck one or two might live! I believe the eggs have been there 2 or 3 days at the most. All are bright orange and the male is fanning them happily!

Oops sorry i read it wrong i thought it ment babies not eggs  my mistake... as nelly says the male will protect so they should be ok :)..... when they do start to venture out the cave by themsleves though ...what i wrote first is a distinct possibilty

Ah well, i'll give you all an update in a couple days time if i have any left!

He's always been very bad tempered with being kept with any other pictus, tried groups of 2,3 and 4 he's attacked all of them!

Would i have any better success if i moved the eggs to a breeding trap in the same tank? if it would help i'll go and buy one tomorrow!

They have now been moved into my other tank, which is also a 180, they are the wriggling stage, have moved the dad with them, done very carefully with a saucepan and the place the eggs were! there are next to no predators in this second tank. Lots of hiding places as well, currently have about 50 wrigglers.

I've still got 25 swimming around in the community tank! must be past eating size now!
