Can anyone help here.....I currently have a nano tank but am in the middle of setting up a 400 litre tank complete with sump.....(have had large tank before but gave up..missed it so much went back to nano - u know the story)....

I have a few bristleworms in the nano (1 being quite large) which i would like to get rid of before transferring the rock into my large tank.....I read in one of the marine magazines an article about placing the live rock into a bucket of club soda...the bristleworms hate this and comeout of the rock rather quickly......

Can anyone tell me what club soda is only have asked around and no-one knows not even my LFS.....

would be greatful if anyone could shed some light on this or indeed if not do the bristleworm catchers you can purchase...DO they work .......?

Any other tips will be taken on board too...................

My question is, why get rid of bristle worms? They're fantastic scavengers :)

I am pretty sure you won't be able to call it live rock after you soak it in club soda....

I agree that they are great scavengers, but if you want to get rid of them and replace them with something else, you can put a piece of shrimp inside a wad of bridal veil, put a rubber band around it and then submerge it in your tank overnight. In the morning, the netting will be full of BWs....

Which magazine did you read that in?

IME it doesnt even have to be club soda. You could use FW, or if you start to heat water beyond say 27C, the creatures will start to exit their rock, searching for water more to their liking.

Rossikey, I am trying to propagate my bristle worms, because they are so beneficial. :good: They eat many left over food scraps, and are great "hoovers" of detritus and anything dying. If you have creatures eating dying snails, picking up food scraps, all before it breaks down, your preventing pollution in your nano. :good:

This was an article in Marine World magazine....Issue 31..there is a piece in there saying to use club soda

Now all I do at feeding time is dump a load of food in. I don't worry about how much. The bristle worms come out and sometimes up to 3 inches away from the rock in the light to eat all the extrta food. The only thing I have to do is use a paint brush once a week on my rocks to stir up all the particles from the bristle worms waste so that my filter will pick up.
