Afternoon all, i've just bought a bristle nose catfish i'd like to know if i need to add anything to my tank to make his life better, i've got a decent size piece of bogwood, a cave, live plants in the tank, i've also bought some sinking catfish pellets and some sinking algae wafers,

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Mark.

Sounds like you've got everything he needs. :good:

As well as the pellets and wafers, try putting some fresh veg in there from time to time to vary his diet. Mine go mad for cucumber, courgette and (romaine) lettuce, I tend to feed a couple of times a week.

Ideal, i'll make sure we buy extra veg when we go shopping later in the week.

Also i didn't realise how fascinating(?spelling) they are to watch, talk about addictive viewing!!! lol

Another "ideal" type thing you could think about for the future perhaps would be streambed gravel. I recently attended a lecture by one of the top catfish breeders in the US and one of the most interesting things he talked about was how he would sometimes take little weekend getaway trips and go back into sections of streams (ideally fairly un-visited by the public) and collect sand and small pebble gravel in buckets for later use in his cory and other catfish tanks. He said that he had found that even sand/playsand etc. could turn out to be a bit sharp and cutting for catfish barbells and that he's always able to find stream sand/gravel that has been completely smoothed by water flow over the years and is rounded and smoothed on all sides.

our bristlenose catfish called bob likes bubbles and our other catfish likes his drain pipe.

Yea, mine likes to just sit on the air stone for hours, its strange i know.

They definately like the addition of some cucumber, it seems to lighten them up.

i hope yours is doing well :)

My BN fella must be The Odd One Out coz he / she totally ignores cucumber but goes MAD for day-old potato. Don't ask me why, but if I plonk in a bit of spud, he / she ignores it for the first day - but on the next day, sits on it, chomping away like mad...

EH???

Normally, I'd remove any veg after 24 hours, but Nibbler only seems to like it a day old.
