Has anyone got a built in stand in brick work or simular. I want something solid and pretty much permenant. I am looking for photos of brick shelving, of any type. I want ideas.Urgently I am redecorating. I am looking at getting a 5 foot tank. and want a heavy duty display unit. dont trust shop brought.

You mean you want a sturdy stand or do you want to put the tank into the wall so you can see the tank on each side in 2 different rooms? If you just want a sturdy stand. I had a handyman I know build me a wooden stand for my 4 foot tank and he just used 2x4's and thick plywood (i believe thats what its called) and it holds up good.

Basicaly, I want fancy sturdy shelving. But I like the idea of having it made out of brick

It might look a little tacky if you have a tank that has a black trimming sitting on red bricks.

Durbkat bricks come in far mor varieries of colour than red, off the top of my head
Red, orange, yellows, creams, sandstone, varius grey's (including near black to almost white) or you can have combinations, example a yellow/sandstone with redish/orange flecks through it, thats off the top of my head, I'm sure theres loads more. If I wasnt renting I quite like the idea of a nice deep grey brick work tank stand/recess. Another thing to consider is a stonework shelf instead of brick. The one mainthing to consider if its solid brick its going to be unmovable (but stable as all hell)

Thats it youre on the same wave lenght, I need pictures or plans. Im not good at visualising a design.Im thinking possibly also different types of stone.or blockwork[/

Sorry I dont have any pics, but I am 3D design student  if you want to PM the tank size, about how big you might want the stand and either freestanding or inbuilt (inwhich case I'd need to know the wall type as well) I'd be happy to knock up some pics 4 you, other things like brick or stone and colour would be good to

How about a stand built out of glass block with a backlight? I have been thinking of doing that for a 4 foot display tank in the family room, using a AGA 90 gal.

Hi. If i were building a permanent stand like that i would first build the frame out of wood. Then on the sides that face the room you could use bricks to "enclose" the framework instead of wood etc. They have all kinds of bricks that you can buy. There's even the ones used for making retaining walls outdoors that can be stacked without using any cement or anything. That way if you wanted to move them later you could un-build the stand. Just make sure to get some help making sure the wood frame and the floor can support the weight of the tank.

Sounds like it would be a nice idea. I could see a nice stonework stand with a tank set up for Africans. The stonework would carry through nicely.

Besides being quite heavy, you would want to consider the future use of the stone stand if it is a built in stand. Make sure it could be used for other purposes in the future, in case you have to sell your house. Think of what you could use it for if there was no tank in place.
