Ive been reashearching goldifish and i have 3-4 40 gal. ish tubs that i can use. The tempature would be pretty stabel, as i could keep the tubs in the garage. I figured one tub for breeeding and rasing. I plan to cull them and the culls can go into my grandparents 500 gal. pond or sell them online for very cheap or free. There is also a mom and pap store dow the road that would be perfect to sell culls too. So, heres my plans and ?'s.
1 tub- breeding and raising
2 tub- goldys( how many per 40 gals. I was thinking 5)
3 tub- goldys, same quesition as above.
4 tub- if possible, another rasing or breeding tank.

so yeh.

Surely you would need to filter these tubs to? could be quite expensive! Also, goldfish like weed to spawn in, you might struggle to grow it indoors perhaps? Also what size are these fish going to be, because 3-4 decent sized golfish would be quite a lot for a 40 gal tub, a stressed fish will not spawn! Just a few points. I may be wrong but im sure people will correct me! :good:

You would be better off letting them spawn on spawning mops in a big tank or in the pond and then moving the spawning mop to the tubs to hatch and grow out.

But what is the ecology like in the pond? Fancy goldfish are not nearly as hardy as their long-bodied cousins. They do not overwinter in ponds as well either, but since you have a garage, you could always set up an indoor pond with plastic kiddie pool (or two) to overwinter the fancies indoors.

Yeh, i was planning summer outdoors and winter indoors.

Hi Zafirah,

From what I've read fancy goldfish need a lot of care and attention when breeding, plus the fancies you see in most pet shops are from bad lines of goldfish - meaning they can be sold cheaper and quicker.

If you want to breed fancies, in my opinion you need to speak with a fancy breeder who can supply a couple of quality fish to start your line with.

Just a tip.
