I was wondering if I had two labs breed and hatch fry, would the parents eat them? Now this is when there are no other fish in the tank...just the two electric yellows
Now i have the same question different fish. Do convicts eat their young too after they are born???
I need to know soon as i am going to the LFS today to pick up either labs or convicts...i really like the labs but the convicts are also top in the list
I have had convicts for a long time. As long as you take care of them (i.e. food) they are the best parents. Mom and dad both take care of the young. Right now I have a tank full of one litter of babies that grew up. I don't take the time to take the young out because they breed like rabbits. So all the babies get eaten by all the aunts and uncles, I am sure not the parents. They try to protect the babies but their is just too many in the tank. One thing to consider is resale value. Around my area convicts don't resale for much. Hope this helped.
Yup, convicts are great parents - you can only keep a pair in the tank with nothing else because of how aggressive they are in defending them. A lot of people can't even give the young fish away though, so be prepared to deal with the excess!
