Breeding Plan

I caution you against the Oto / Mollie mix. Mollies do like a bit of salt, and it will burn the Oto’s skin. :(

I agree with Silvani ~ If you're going to give the Mollies salt, I wouldn't have Otos. The Guppies and Platies will adapt to the salt just fine. If you have hard, or alkaline water, salt isn't such a big deal, but it's usually safer to add it, even if it's not neccessary. (I know everyone will come, and say they haven't kept Mollies in salt, and they were fine, etc, etc, but I have always had issues with freshwater tanks and Mollies. I have hardish water, and it's not my fishkeeping skills, since I have kept more fragile fish. ) So it's my opinion.

I wouldn't mix the water. The water shouldn't be that different, if it's coming from the same tap, and you're doing the same thing to it. Just make a quick check before you move her, and adjust accordingly. However...if you're going to add salt to that tank, then you have a bigger issue. You'll have to go into acclimating them.

For the gravid Swordtails ~ Wait unil she is pretty pregnant, as nets can stress them out greatly, and you don't want aborted fry, or birthing problems. I would personally recommend that you just put a lot of floating plants in the tank, and let the fry survive that way. Or possibly catch them once they are born, and put them in the trap.

Sorry, I feel like I'm shooting down all your ideas. :( You really have a good plan, I'm just nipping possible problems in the bud. :good:

I don't plan to add salt at all, for I am not going with ottos but small corys.
I dont want to go with salt for I don't want to stress the female out my acclimatizing her and loosing fry.

I bought mine for $3 each at my LFS, but that store tends to be a bit cheaper. PetsMart sells them for $5. It really depends on the store.

They aren't especially easy to find in some places (I've never had trouble, personally), so don't get discouraged if the first place doesn't have them.

I saw them, they weren't albino though :-(

This is basically what each tank will carry...

300 Liter

(3) Albino Breeding Trio 1m/2f
(7) Leopard Corys
(5) Sheephead Swordtails 1m/4f
(8) degati killifish 2m/6f

25 Liter

(3) Clown Killifish 1m/2f
4 Panda Corys

40 Liter Divided

(3) Pintail Red Wagtail Platty
(3) Blue Moscow Guppy
(4) Coolie Loach
(3) Black Molly

what fish should I have on each side?

As soon as I have raised enough money ALL my livebearers will be changed to Albinos.

well not to be rude but i try to breed a couple different kinds

u got 10 different fish to breed in 3 tanks

wheres all the baby's going to go

in the 300 liter - corys lay eggs - good change eggs get eatin by other fish

i put all cory's in 1 tank -- Panda Corys & Leopard Corys -- say 25 liter

guppy, platy, molly, swords --- have babies like crazy

molly's can be a pain - prawn to shimys and ich and they want salt

if i was u i try to breed some fish but not 10 types u need 10 tank or more at that

platy's & swords are great together can go in same tank
