The weekend just gone i got hold of another pair of mature adult breeding Bristle Nose plecs, both are fully grown and last bread about 4 months ago :)

As soon as i put them in the tank the male went around looking at the 3 caves i have in the tank and very quickly decided to make one of them his home and is in there constantly with his head pokeing out as seen in this pic :hyper: (he looks quite strange upside down with his big bristles hanging out)

Both male and female look very healthy and happy, they are eating well and dont hide away at all

Ive noticed that the male will come out of his cave for 3 reasons
1) to feed
2) deliberately to go and find the female and chase her for a few mins, then he heads back into his cave
3) to fan the sand at the entrance to the cave, almost digging another cave under his cave

There are some L052 Butterfly plecs in the tank as well untill i can move the breeding pair to there new tank.
Why would the male deliberately come out of his cave to find the female and chase her ???? . He pays absolutely no attention what so ever to the L052's, they can be sat more or less on top of his head when hes pokeing out the cave and he doesnt budge at all :S

If I remember correctly I think the male BN will guard his cave before the breeding happens.

As for the lying on his back looking dead thing I wouldn't worry, my male BN does it all the time and he isn't even breeding

he guards the cave but only from her, none of the other fish get chased off when they go near it.

watching last night when the lights were out i noticed the female keeps edging her way close to the cave entrance, normally going backwards and waveing her tail at the male and he didnt chase her off, but the slightest movement from him scared her and she was gone. then 5 mins later she would go back and do exactly the same again

sounds like she is ready to dance but he might be gay :) give em a chance, they'll do their bit and soon you'll be a gran-ma
