What happens if you breed a plakat to a female who's not a plakat? Will offspring just come out veiltails or whatever the female is? There are a few pairs I would like to breed but I would like some opinions...
I'm also looking for a cambodian female because I have a few cambodian males that I would like to breed.

First possible pair:
Pretty sure she is a ct... but I'm not sure  . I pick her because she is a beautiful solid steel blue and she is HUGE.

And my big boy. Sorry about the huge picture.

Second possible pair:
This is an old picture to show that she did at one point have crowns...

well im not sure that the gender has anything to do with it, but it might...
i have a plakat/delta male betta with medium length fins (more on the shorter side). im not sure if the plakat was the mother or the father though.

I think that the wild-type short fin is dominant, at least that's what I've read. So you'd probably end up with plakats.

Just as an fyi, I don't think your first female is a crown, but the second one is. Also, breeding a big female isn't always necessarily good - the male has to be able to wrap around her, plus the bigger they are the older, and young bettas are often best for breeding.

if you look closely at the first female you will see that she does infact have crowns..

not sure if that makes her a crowntail, but it looks to me like she has the gene at least...

doesnt look like a combtail... definate 'crowns' are visible..

the first pair would be cool.... id definately breed them together..
or maybe the 2nd female with the first male.. if your concerned about the CT gene.. 2nd female does look more 'crownie' lol..

either way youll have some cool babies!

well, basically the ct pair will produce cts... as the look of it and for the plakat pair, it would be more male plakats and some female and male veiltails i'm not sure, it also depends on the past generation of both fish too. good luck

well there are different degrees of ct but im still thinking the first one is a comb. heres a pic of my only ct female at the moment. her fins are uneven because of the way they grew back after spawning. they used to be perfect!

Thanks for the info!

Ya, I don't know if she is a ct after seeing some members female pics. They are just little nubs. Other's females have huge spikes.

as i said... its obviously not a full blown CT or it probably would have longer crowns..

but the crowns are visible...

which SHOULD make it a crown... even if they arent as big as others' crowns..

id still do the first pair... the steel blue is cooler than the green imo.
