Hi, does anyone know how difficults it is to breed neons? also does anyone know the age at which they breed and any other useful info? Thanks :D

I've never done it myself but from what I've heard you need large ones of the species and you need to seperate the males and females into a split tank (the females are larger than the males). let them get used to each other side by side and eventually seperate a male with a female into a planted (hornwort is good) tank. They should lay some eggs in the plants and in a few days they should hatch. They are hard to start breeding, finding pairs and raise the almost microscopic fry, but once you get going it's easy.

The problem is not getting Neons to breed, it is getting the eggs to hatch and raising the fry.

The standard egglayer procedures with good soft acidic water will get Neons to spawn quite easily.

The eggs will not hatch in anything other then really soft water. The Calcium ions in the water react with the egg shell and make it to tough for the fry to break out. Of course, water that soft is very unstable, and can swing in pH very easily. You need to really understand your chemistry - if you do, they are no more difficult to breed then any other small tetra.

Consider, many of them evolved in water with zero hardness.

Just to add, my female neon layed eggs yesterday after being away for three days on holiday. (not the neon)

My water is pH- 7-7.2, hardwater, KH-5.7

I will keep a look out for more eggs!

i think you have to keep the eggs in the dark for them to hatch
please correct me if im wrong :dunno:
I don't think that is with neons. I have heard that about some fish, but I am not sure which kind it was... :S
