how do i know when my female betta is ready to breed? she has vertical bars, and she looks like she has eggs in her, there is a wite thing poking out from under neith her. wat do i do.

have you conditioned her and have you a male betta ready? Are you prepared for the 40 odd fry that they could have, and have you jars to separate them, and homes for them?
I have thought countless times about breeding my bettas, but you need to be committed to looking after them :good: .

If she has vertical bars, swimming with the male when they are separated, trying to swim with him to the bubble nest, her neck where the eggs are is very big, and is pointing to a 45 degree angle, then yes she is ready. I would give it a try and see what they do, there will be nipping fins and such but they should mate. Let them be for about 30 to 45 minutes and see what they do, if she wont get near him and he is really chasing her away then put her back in her separate glass in the tank, then wait a day or two then try again. If she is very dark bodied then it will be hard to tell if she has vertical bars, if so then go with the other options above that tells if she might be ready.
About when you said she has a white thing on her belly. That is very normal all females have those, it is where the eggs come out. They have them even when she is not pregnant.

Hoped this helped =)

Hiya
Just a few things :good:
It may be as many as 200 fry, so yep be prepared :good:
When we release our females, we leave them unless there is too much aggression. Our last spawn, the female was with the male for about 24hrs, if my memory serves me right. If its their first spawn it may take them a while to get it on  as long as there isn't to much nipping going on i would leave them a bit longer than 35 mins :good:

correct bronze, 35 mins is not enough time to know exactly if they will spawn or not, leave them over night if he isnt trying to bully her bad, fast chasing and torpedo charging by the male is part of it so dont freak when you see it, the male must show the female his dominence (spelling lol) in order for her to except him completely and spawn and by doing this he might need to get rough, if she may not go straight up to him or swim with him either, really dark females do show verticals, it the cambodians that dont.

heres an idea of how many fry you can get when you least expect it
