Breeding Marine

If i phone up my LFS will it be possible for them to order in a breeding pair?

I very much doubt it, but they might.
However, be prepared to pay alot more for a breeding pair.

thanks.
Im not to bothered about paying more. I really want to breed them, and their 12 quid at my LFS. I wouldnt buy them other than for breeding, so i dont really want to spend 24 quid and just hope i have a male and female

A breeding pair could easily set you back £100, so youd be better off buying a few pairs and kep them seperate. Youre bound to get a breeding pair eventually when theyre old enough and you swap them about a bit.

agreed.

I just bought 3 of them at the LFS, they were the 3 biggest in the tank and the only ones sexable. THe only way to tell the difference is the angle the lower jaw is at.

The guy at my LFS (hidden reef) knows so much about fish (he has his bachelors in marine biology), was able to sex a few of them, so i got those ones!

Good luck if you try to breed them :good:

IMO, you'll have better luck if you purchase a pair from someone locally which is already breeding. Often times "mated" pairs of clownfish won't breed until they're at least 10 years old (these are long-lived fish). And still other times, "mated" pairs of clowns won't breed at all due to unstable tank conditions. More of a shot in the dark than anything to find a "breeding" pair.

Thanks, wasn't trying to breed them, but didn't want 3 males.

Lol ,ok, I considered breeding guppys, but have come to the conclusion that i want to breed my green Clown Goby. I already have one, and i know that they can change sex both ways, so hope to get another.
so my questions are:
what are the chances theyll pair up
What are the chances theyll mate
If they mate once and i fail, will they again
How old must they be to Breed
do they need acapora/branching coral, or can i use a plant pot etc
Any experiences?
Links?
Journels?
if you can answer ANY of these, ill be sooooooo grateful as theres limited information that i can find on the internet.
Thanks Sooo much in advance

I am just getting into breeding with a friend of mine, and gobies are currently on our possibility list. I have a great book ( The complete Illustrated Breeder's Guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes by Matthew L. Wittenrich) which focuses a small section on the genus Gobiodon.

Scanned a couple pages for you. (Text is small...)
Hope they help :)

The thing with breeding gobies is the fac that a lot of them have fairly short life spans. So you really have to be lucky with it.

ive read that GCG live 2-5 years which sould be alright assuming they live 3.5

a fairly small window when you consider that you wont get one that is 0 and theres the time taken to get to maturity and then there also old age/
