Ok i have just transferd 4 juliis from my 180L tank in to my 40L and i want to try and breed them does any one have any information on how i should start the breeding ?

How old are they? Whats the male to female ratio? What temp is the tank? The more info you can give, the more info can be returned.

How I would start is with a bare bottom breeding tank, your 40L will be a perfect size. You can add some live plants, I use java moss just to introduce some infurosia for the newly hatched fry to eat. I usually feed the adults bloodworms and other frozen foods about 3-4 times a day. Be sure to keep on top of the water changes though. After about a week of conditioning I do a 50% water change using cold water. Mine have pretty much bred everytime when I do the water change. For filteration I use a sponge filter.

I do the following:

10-15gallon tank, sand bottom, a piece of slate proped up against the side of the tank, to form a hiding spot.

add a heater, and a filter, air or box filter.

Then add the fish, feed as said above on frozen blood worm and high quality foods, mine do really well on king british catfish pellets.

Once the females look very plump, do a 50% water change with cold water.
This can trigger spawning, also stormy weather works well, so if its going to storm do you water change, this combines with high atmospheric pressure and again triggers spawning.

hope this helps.

Also are you sure they are C. julii?
