Can i buy fish that enjoy eating fry so i can not have worries about the BABies  :hyper: :grr:

Hi Snotirl

The simple answer is yes, lots of fish will eat fry. An angel fish will do the job nicely, (I wonder why is chose that one)

hi. ah ok but do they need to be in pairs and do they get to big and r they that vicious and how big do they eat the fry at???

Hi Snotirl

1. No they do not need to be in a pair.

2. In about 3 years they may get too big.

3. Yes they are that vicious.

4. A 1.5" angel fish should be able to eat any livebearer fry.

When I kept palties and tiger barbs. The tiger barbs used to eat all the fry, so you should already have two fry eaters.

so ur telling me i could just get one and would he eat any other of my fishes

Hi Snotirl

Wiliam is right. The angel, when larger may try and eat the neons, but they have to be quite large to do this.

I feed a few baby guppies to a male swordtail and 2 green tiger barbs a few time a week. They just love them, unlike the adult guppies, who havent ate a whole lot of their babys.

oh and my tiger barbs are like half an inch i like small fish do angel fish grow quick?

Try a leaf fish. They only get like 3-4 inches. They don't get big enough to eat the adults, but will eat the fry until they are unavailable.

You know what you people that feed fry to your fish are evil, :grr:  I cant believe it, if you dont want fry dont get a male or female fish. And its easy to tell the difference in Livebearers, so its not like that would be a problem.

My God, let the little fishies live.

Why dont you give them away or see if a pet store will take them for free!

I am totally disappointed in you all and I am sorry I dont share your view of letting your fish eat the fry, because there are plenty of ways from not having fry.

Poor Baby Fishies :-(

While I agree that feeding fish to fish is kind of cruel ya have to face facts here. Do you believe that no babys are eaten in the wild? Its a fact of nature.
I am sorry I am not as adept at telling the sex of baby fish as you are, I cant tell until sometimes too late.

Not to mention, the fish stores around here WILL NOT take them, not even for free, or if they would, they would be feeders anyway. I have tried to give them to friends etc, but very few takers. I have been over run with baby guppies until I got another tank so I could seperate the males and females. The fish I feed babies to will only eat them up to a certain size, so anything over that I let grow to whatever age they can in the tank. I can't just simply go and buy another tank, I have nowhere else to put one, not even a 5 gallon tank. So instead of letting the babies die from overpopulation, I find it much more humane to slip a few to some of my other fish, than to cut their heads off or freezing them or whatever, since noone around here seems to want any.

I thought that way at first but I cant tell the males from female either and I have already bought four different tanks for the livebearers and I am already running out of roomI dont have any fish bigger enough to eat the fry yet except for the mothers I am just going to keep them in a well planted tank and I guess the strong will live,

well its life i didnt know how many she would have i was a NEWBIE!!! i wanted babies what can i say.....!!
