breeding fish

i agree that livebearers would be easier for your first time especially when you consider almost every female you can buy is pregnant and its more just a matter of watching and getting the fry before they are eaten (someone correct me if im wrong) also since they are small you can keep more of them in a smaller tank increasing your chances of getting one of your girls knocked up. make sure to get a 3 f:1m ratio
As Becca said you should also find what is in demand in your area since you wont be keeping them. start by asking your lfs what types of fish they will buy and what they will give for each one. also see if they pay you cash or store credit. although in my opinion store credit is just as good since you can use it to pay for more food, tanks, equpment, fish .....
Be sure to let us know what you decide and how it goes. :Good luck:

Thank you. My father said after summer but I got a plan and will go try it out soon when I get a chance. He is so controlling quite frusterating.

Check out ur local WalMart. U should be able to get a 10 gallon tank with mediocre filter and heater, and a hood (and i think also a net and possibly food) for a decent price. I know it was under $50 ... what brand equipment are we talking about with these tanks from PetsMart? That will make a difference. It also depends on what u want to breed. Some species u can go cheap and get a sponge filter, especially in a 10 g.

mrcabbs i was just looking on petsmart.com to see if i could look at what exactly came with the tank and i didnt se it. do you know the brand

Top fin 20 gallon. I have looked at that site and they do not have it sorry. Do you think I should get the 20 gallon for 80$ or the 10 gallon for 50$. I do not know if I could put two tanks together or all this toher stuff. I am on a low budget.

well i would keep an eye open at garage sales and in the classifieds and get the biggest thing you can afford and fit in your room. you mentioned your dad wanted you to wait until summer and i know thats frustrating. i am going through the same thing with my husband. i want a bigger tank and he says i have to wait till the end of the summer.( i went and bought little betta tank to hold me over till then ) But since you have to wait you can look around for a good tank that you can get second hand. Also while you wait you can start buying somethings you will nedd like gravel, decorations, breeding net etc.. If you pay for all of your stuff over a longer period of time you may be able to get some nicer things then if you buy it all at once. just always keep enough cash on hand to get the tank without acc.
