Do you know what to do if the water is hard?

My suggestion would be to get fish that can live and breed in the hard water.

African Cichlids love hard water. Another one that's hardy and very easy to breed, besides the yellow lab mentioned above, is Iodotropheus sprengerae, or Rusty cichlid.

kribensis are also relatively easy fish to breed, but sell for a bit less than that, but depends what sort of a challenge you want

i used to breed african cichlids and sell them to lfs's.
we had 6 breeding tanks set up with another 3 waiting to be set up and then we were going to buy another 6.
we sold for £1 each for your basic bread and butter cichlid and more for for other types but it ended prematurely and dismantled, i was doing it with a friend.
