I'm constantly buying river shrimp from one of the LFS's so armed with a 3ft tank I would like to get my own breeding stock.

I know they will breed a tropical marine tank, but what are the optimum conditions I can provide for them? I'ved found chucking a hand full of marine salt in the tank with them along with lots of aeration keeps them alive a bit longer.

thanks for any help

i would like to do the same thing paul i have a small tank that i have been keeping river shrimp in since tuesday. at the moment it has no filter but i will get one tomorrow.the lfs told me to keep them nice and cold so they are in the garage.thats all i know so i will be watching this topic for some tips

In DangerousDans moray marine tank, his left over river shrimp in there quite happily breed, then the moray picks off the odd one or 2 older ones letting the young ones grow to good size,

I'm afraid brine shrimp are a litle small for my fish

Its dificult to raise sufficient numbers without specialist set ups, the larvae are planktonic and difficult to feed the vast ammounts of microscopic food they need to grow properly and obviously power filters and powerheads are out as they suck up and destroy the tiny larvae.
Ideally you need a way to seperate the planktonic larvae into a seperate tank run with sponge filters and a automatic dosing pump filled with liquid food and set to feed the tank 6 times a day.
To be honest the cost of setting up the system and then the feeding costs arent worth the hassle to save a few pennies instead of buying them.

am i right in thinking it would be easier to breed fish for food like mollies or something else?
