Breeding convicts

What is the minimum tank size for a breeding pair of convicts. I went to a party last night and one of the roomates of my friend has a breeding pair in a 12 gallon eclipse he said he feeds the fry to his other ish so they dont need a bigger tank...

Cons will breed at 1" so I guess a 12g wouldn't be too bad if they are that small. However, when they get bigger (in just a couple months) they should have at least a 20g or 29g, imo.

thats what I thought. This male was at least 3 inches and the female was about 2 inches.
