just a quick question here people. how big are cichlids when they decide to pair up? or is it just a matter of time instead?

thanks

chris

Depends on what cichlids they are, most of them it takes 6 months to hit Sexual Maturity, but with the size of the fish it all depends on what fish it is.

Yes be more specific, and son't let your guard down I had been thinking my cichlids were still too small to breed, but all of a sudden i have baby Maylandia lombardoi in my tank I hadn't noticed any breeding

most of them are convicts, but i have a yellow lab, and a peacock as well.

Same tank?

You might wanted to seperate the convicts from the rest water requirements are different , and I hear convicts get very agrisive when breeding, you may be ok with the lab and peacock though, with africans breeding cichlids are a sign that you are doing a good job and they feel confortable in the tank, and it doesn't matter with convicts generally there is little trouble breeding them

These won't crossbreed

yea they are in the same tank, at least for now they are, i had to take down the tank at home, due to a lazy brother, so i put them in my tank in my dorm room. so far they are getting along fine. i was thinking about putting up a smaller tank for the other two, but there just isnt that much room in these damn dorm rooms. lol. i had to pull my desk 8 inches away from the wall, and make a custom stand for my 48 gallon that i have in here...... but thanks for all the advice everyone
