Thanks for the honest replies. I think I will look into a bigger footprint for them. It would indeed make them a lot happier, as well as help control ammonia.
It will certainly give you a bit more leeway with the over feeding and yep, they will feel far more comfortable in a bigger tank..... good luck with it all
So far agree with everybody.
Feed them fat and happy.
Try a 20gal. long. I had mine in a 10 for six months till they went into a 4 footer. Six days later I had eggs.
If you can time a water change with a cold front moving through. Some have success with this, others don't. I know mine get frisky right after a rain.
