what size tank should i breed Bristlenose catfish in? i have 9 Bristlenose to breed together :good:

can you please use Liters as i do not know what gallons are...

9 BNs... + fry... I'd go for 200L or bigger...

okay thanks mate, so alot of caves and driftwood will be all they need in the tank?

I will setup a 160L 4 foot tank for them, is there any basic info i need to know about setting up and looking after these catfish compared to cichlids?

With 9 BNs breeding - you'll be looking at a lot of poop from them and the fry - so I'd over filter :)

I'd start with 10 or more caves (so they can take their pick)

Do you know what ratio of males and females you have?

i have at least 2 filters on each of my tanks as i have lots and lots of the little gits have 3 males gaurding fry at min have another pair about to spawn and every spawn has been in one of smithrc's caves that he makes

feed the plenty food and do a couple of big water changes ,this will trick them into the wet season and will spawn shortly after once they have the hang of it they will spawn every few weeks, if you find out that you have to many and need to sepperate them take the female out into another tank not the male

need any more info just ask

cheers dane

yeah i have 5 females/4 males

i only run air powered sponge filters with a large internal air box filter for them, now these dont clean there messy waste so i just do more regular vac cleaning, is this fine?

and im also thinking since i will have so many baby fry should i have a bare bottom tank for them so i can clean it easyer? and not suck up any fry while i do a vac clean...

4 males and 5 females in same tank

not a good option for breeding all the males will do is fight over who gets to mate with the female/what cave is theres ie to much compation to even think about breeding mate i will be vey supprised if they breed try 5 females with 1 male :shifty:

i have that ratio in one of my tanks and im booming with fry

cheers dane

ps it is a true l046 zebra plec in russels sig

okay thanks alot mate

any I'd say your going to need better filtration... A reliable external filter for a 500L tank should do it ;)

P.S. Yep Thats "Daisy" one of our L046 Zebra Plecs ;)

I appologise if i'm highjacking this thread a little bit, but at what size/age are bristlenoses mature enough to breed at?
