Breeding Betta Fish *should I Give It Up*

Thanks for the pics Netty :good:

How long do you keep your males in the jars for? Is it roughly the same ratio of sexes per spawn? Hmmm, may think twice about breeding betas. Temp control and segregating could be a problem for me. -_-

Once we have sold the bigger ones from the divided tanks, then we move the bigger of the jarred ones up to grow on more to be ready to go. Then the smaller ones get moved up into the jars. They tend to be around 4 months old when we start selling them depending on quickly they reach the size that we are happy with.

Originally we used a very large reptile heat pad to keep the jars warm but now have a small gas filled radiator in there which keeps the temps just right. We also have 2 of our spawning and growout tanks in there so no need for a heater in each one.

The sexes can vary alot............one spawn gave us mainly females but the last 2 look predominantly male at the moment!!!!

What we have found is that the larger the spawn the longer they seem to go before becoming too aggressive with each other. Unless you breed PKs....which were half killing each other at 4 weeks old
