I am attempting one of my last tries to spawn bettas. I just released the female with the male after about a 24 hour period of the female being in the vase. I have never seen this behavior from a male betta while breeding.... He is flaring up but does not! attack the female shows no fear at all but has not destroyed the nest but does go to check it out. The male sort of swims away from his nest and the female follows him and he does this going back and forth from nest to planted side. Is this a good sign? I am leaving them alone now I covered the top of the container I have them in it is a plastic container holds alittle over 10 gal. How much light do they need to spawn? I have covered it up most of the way and there probably will not be much light tonight when it gets darker. Should I slide the towel back a bit? To allow more light.

Could use an answer before 10pm central to decide if I am gonna leave them overnight.

bump

I am probably gonna be leaving them overnight because the male is not harming the female.

I left my female in 3 days, but she had plenty of places to hide, I also left the light on because it seems the most damage occured during the dark when they couldn't avoid each other. My fish were aggressive to each other, but I figured it was part of the court ship. They weren't trying to kill each other, the female was just testing the male to see if he was strong enough to be her mate. When she finally decided he was macho enough :flex: BABIES!! :hyper:

Yeah, their behaviour sounds pretty normal to me. If neither of them are getting too beat up don't be afraid to leave them together for two or three days... sometimes the hardest part of breeding is the wait :)

BTW... still want to adopt a fry from me? I have you down for male #4, who has gone marble, so if you want to swap him for a different male that's fine but he's yours if you still want him :)

Ok because he is little by little rebuilding his nest. He is also starting to get a little more aggressive but still not doing any damage. I have nice hiding places in there tho so that shouldn't be a problem I will give them another day or two see what happens.

Yea I will take him but I would like to see if any more males you post catch my eye and I am gonna need a week or two with school and this spawn im attempting so if you can hold him for a couple weeks that would be cool.

And also I am thinkin about terminating spawn cause of hurricane. I also would like for it to blow over before we make any plans to ship.

Just got a little rain so maybe that will help out to speed the process up a little. He seems "out of it" not really bothering much with keeping up his nest all he does is sit under a plant and when the female comes out from hiding he chases her and that is about it. Should I wait it out another day?

Under the leaves of the plant? Did you check under the leaf to see if there are eggs?

I will check more again but there isn't a nest under the leaves just random bubbles. Plus the female is still fat.

I just checked and I THINK I saw eggs which would explain the males new aggressive behavior towers the female there is not alot but they are in a neat pile on a leaf of a plant and there are a few scattered. They are like little whitish round objects is how I can kind of explain it. I have never seen betta eggs before but I have never seen this before! So that could be a good sign I geuss I will find out in a couple days! I can't get any good pics I wish I could but there is actually no bubble nest in this area just a few bubbles with what I think are eggs. I am keeping my fingers cross I am praying for this to be asuccess!

Betta eggs look like white opaque bubbles, so that very well could be them!
