Hi, paired up 2 lots of Apistogramma Cacatuoides around 2 weeks ago and a pair has just revealed fry so thought I may aswell start a journal to show progression with the spawn!

Both pairs are Triple Reds and very high quality from a trusted breeder so the fry should be good too :good:

Here's the pair when they were first introduced to the tank

And this is what I woke up to today!

Mum pushing the fry out of the cave into the open

Then more and more appeared

Apologies for the washed out colours, pictures were taken on my phone and it doesn't cope well with tank lighting

The male has been removed because he was getting a little aggressive towards the female so she's been left to do the job on her own and is doing it very well. Picking the fry up and spitting them back into the group if they go wandering. It's really interested to watch her round them up as they take their first attempts at swimming

Will update with more pictures as they develop! :good:

ANy news Nathan? The pics show the story really well i think. :)

Great work and congratulations!! :D

Which one is the terminator nath? that male looks amazing mate

Sorry I haven't updated I've been so busy lately. News is I have around 18 left from the original 28 so not bad going I think, Mother is still in with them and doing a fantastic job of looking after them.

They are huge now compared to when they first left the nest, swimming properly, fins and tail developed and some of the bigger ones are going stripey now :D

Fry at 2 weeks old, free swimming but still staying with mum. They don't explore much and stay close to the substrate for 90% of the time

Fry at 3 weeks, fins now developing and beginning to explore more and leaving mum behind.

Fry at 4 weeks, Fully developed fins and tail, beginning to get stripes and very small amounts of colour. Growth really taking off now and noticeable size differences every day

I will soon be taking them away from the mother and putting them on there own in a 2ft grow out tank and should hopefully see some huge size gains. Terminator is the mother Craig, shes been through a lot but just won't bloody give up haha.

Thanks for checking back!

Thanks very much! Trying to get a better air pump so I can power all my little tanks and a lrger growout tank so once I have that I can put them in the big tank on there own and grow them out properly.
