Livebearers are a varied category. Some of them are very rare. Some are difficult to breed. Some (I believe) have never been bred in captivity.

The livebearers the op had in mind are not rare or difficult to breed. These are the fish being commented on.

I don't think tackling a livebearer that hasn't been bred in captivity before is a great starting point for someone new to it all, really.

someone new to Livebearers will not get the chance to get such a rare fish . Selling to shops will not make you a profit buy the time you have spent out on the costs of running your tanks and fish foods. you will be very lucky to break even with the costs one thing is for sure you will never make a profit. Selling to shops .

there are so many people that seem to think all Livebearers are easy to keep and breed it is true when it comes to common Livebearers.
If you get a chance of getting some rare Livebearers give them a try. there are some easy to breed and very difficult species to keep and breed , some Livebearers can be more Challenging than Cichlids They are well worth the time and effort compared with common Livebearers.

fish48 is right. You won't make a profit selling to LFS, but it will help offset the cost of your hobby, at least to a certain extent. You can often negotiate a better deal if you agree to "trade" your fish for food, other fish, and/or misc. supplies. You will probably not be able to do this with any of the chain stores.

I suggest having a talk with your LFS owner or manager. If you find out what he/she needs, you might save yourself some trouble.

Most fish clubs have auctions at their regular meetings where you can sell your fish. You won't make much money but you will get some excellent deals on fish, plants, etc. By talking to the members you can find out which LFS are likely to buy your fish and other helpful information. Joining a fish club is a good idea for anyone who takes the hobby seriously enough to think about raising fish to sell.

From time to time, I'll raise a batch of corydoras. My LFS is happy to buy them from me. They are good sellers, especially the locally raised C. pandas.
