Hi, I've had my platy/swordtail tank for 10+ years. The tank is heavily planted with java fern and I usually have some fry survive. Well, my tank is aging and my fish are one by one leaving me. I would like to invest in a breeder net and replenish my tank, so to speak. Here's where my ignorance comes in, how do you know when to put the female in? It seriously seems like my fish have indefinate gravid spots, I don't want the moms to have to live in there for to long! Thanks.

:D Hi!
You can put female inside a breeding net when her stomach is kinda big! If you had your female for a long time you should be able to tell that she is about to drop. When my female gave birth to a first fry in the tank I didn't even know that she was pregnant...but now i know! And even if you put her in a little bit early it wouldn't bother her that much, just put some live plants in it that would be good for a fry and female wouldn't have to swim in the empty and lonely place.. i guess plants would make her more comfy! Just sharing my own expiriences ;) !! Good luck!

 my dalmation molyl is quite prego and im putting her in the net when im around , but when im asleep i take her out cuz if she had then in the net whiel i was asleep the female would eat them all cuz htere is nothign to hide in in the net :(
