thanks for that - I am going to dunk the fish with 2% Methylene Blue, I know it wont destroy parasites in the gravel but when I used it with Neon Tetras, one dunk and the white stuff just falls straight off, and then see how it goes. I would like to know the active ingredient in Protozin?

This is a bit weird right. We're are coming up to a week and a half and all I've done is dip them twice in a reasonably strong solution of 2% Methylene Blue and they seem to be cured.

I went down with a bad cold and didn't keep up the regime of dipping them every two days, but they seem cured.

I knew that Methylene Blue wouldn't cure the whole problem in the gravel of the tank but it was the best treatment I could offer at the time.

Between the first dip and the slightly longer 20 second second dip, it did appear to get slightly worse, but now it's just about all gone.

Could it have been a more general fungus and not Ichthyophthirius multifiliis  after all?

I am going to keep posting to this thread as a kind of diary to this issue, and if any experts in fish disease come along - that would be great.

Basically, using a strong Methylene Blue Solution just twice at half weekly intervals seemed to cure the problem. When you use a strong dip for 20 or 30 seconds the white is normally gone by the next day. (with Methylene Blue I have actually seem white fungus drop straight off a Neon Tetra immediately but I digress)

So now, nearly 3 weeks later, just one has had it re-appear about the same or slightly worse than before and I have re-dipped it last night. All other fish are totally unaffected.

The other 4 Mollies are totally unaffected, and there are 5 new Molly fry healthily growing in a keep net.

As stated before, I know Methylene Blue will not cure what is in the gravel and one might say it re-occurring is consistent with Ich, however I am still not sure of the exact parasite or if it is a more general skin fungus.

UKSPEED due to the life-cycle of ich, you may be seeing your fish in a constant cycle of being infected.

I would love for more people to enter the debate, because you can see already there are differing opinions, and also I can believe the following: that there can be found certain parasites in any given eco-system and that when fish are stressed they are more likely to catch it, however, I find it hard to swallow my LFS statement that "all fish have it."
Interesting. I've never seen any other fish in the tank with it though, only the mollies.
