Hello

My Peppered cory catfish have been spawinig for months now but I always thought that they never hatched or the other fish ate the eggs!!

So the other day I put all my fish into my larger tank so I could get some red claw crabs in the smaller one.
On the off chance I didn't clean out the tank but took the filter out and put it in my big tank to keep it cycled.

Anyway my Mum rudely awoke me at 4am screaming that the eggs had hatched!!
I didn't belive her and told her to £$^% off!!

So all this was 2 days ago and I presumed they would not survive so I've just been swapping water back and 2 from my tanks to keep the little one clean and in good condition for the little fellas.
It looks like they are here to stay so...

What the hell do I do with them?
What do they eat?
How fast do they grow?
Just tell me anything that I can do/buy/make to look after them cos if they die my Mum and girlfriend will never let me forget it!!!!

Ta

Forgot 2 say...

I have some algae growing on the side of my tank and its is full of tiny little worms!!!

What are they?
Should I leave em in for the baby corys to feast on when they are bigger?
Or shud I kill them all with the "MIGHTY THUMB OF GOD"?

I think the worm population exploded due to the fact that their are no fish in the tank to eat them!!

What do you think?
Answers on a rude blackpool postcard please. :D

h\ave you seperated them from any fish????
mabe feed them baby brine shrimp?

The babies are in a 16uk gal tank and seem to be growing rly fast!!!!

At the mo I'm just feeding them on crushed granular food!

Hi Jae1525 :)

Congratulations on finding the new fry in your tank! Your mom must have sharp eyes, because they are tiny little things when they first hatch.

Since they are living in a mature tank, they will find enough microscopic creatures to eat to get them through their first days, so you don't have to worry too much right now. In a couple of weeks, you will be able to start feeding them flake food.
If you can get a microworm culture started quickly, or hatch some baby brine shrimp, these are even better foods for them.

I am a little concerned about the little worms growing in the tank. They are planaria and they only appear when there is an excess of food in the tank. This is not a good thing because harmful bacteria might also be feeding on it. Baby corys are fragile when young and could not survive a bacterial infection.

Since you cannot move them at this stage of their life, do daily water changes with fresh dechlorinated water. This is a good practice with any little fry since the fresh water seems to help them grow.

Good luck and I hope you keep us posted on their progress. :D
