i recently (last night) had my betta euthanized for dropsy (VERY BAD CASE!)

anyways, the problem is that every time i see its empty bowl (2gal) i tear up. :byebye:
i was hoping to sterilize it and put something else in it but i was wondering from you guys' experience if there is anything other than a betta that can fit comfortably in it.
i don't wanna cram anything in there just because it says i can in the books
even our best pet stores need to ship the bettas over, as they have no breeders close and the stress causes a large portion of casualties due to fungus.
the bowl has no filter/heater but does have an air pump.
the room it is in is always warm, as i have a space heater for my other critters (they have a specific room)

so what do you think can go in there?

First, sterilize the bowl with boiling water and aquarium salt. Let it sit until the water becomes room temperature. You then may want to add a strong dose of Super Sulfa and let it sit for at least 24 hours. After that, rinse with cold water. Then remember that because one has passed on it is only to give another a chance to live. Whichever you choose will be the one to have that chance. :)

no there isn't a filter,
but its really hard to find healthy betta around here
i can't think of anything else, thats the problem
there has to be something else

hehehe i have a 3 year old comet (feeder) goldfish in a 4 gallon bowl
i know goldfish need 5gallons but he's small and the water conditions are ALWAYS perfect! :D

and why did you say guppies anyways?
they shouldn't be in anything less than a 5gallon in my opinion

Penn Plax makes mini-filters for bowls less than 5 gallons. Just get that and an airstone. A couple of neon tetras should do fine in that setup.

white cloud (which i disagree with)
zebra danios (which i also disagree due to lack of space)
dwarf frogs
snails
male betta
female betta
ghost shrimp
and glo-light tetra

what do you guys think?
agree?
disagree?
more suggestions?

Comet gold fish are regular ones but with long fins. and even thought the water was always perfect with a betta A gold fish is just too dirty (unless the temp is stuck at like 55 f) Your choices are Bettas, Snails, and ADFs or you could keep all three. As far as cleaning goes why not just use regular bleach and then rinse well.

Opcn

another thought that occured to me you could keep a blue crawdad in there or any number of exotic shrimp.

ADF's, a betta, snails, or ghost shrimp.

If you do decide to use bleach, make sure there are no traces of it left in the bowl, as bleach is very toxic to fish. I prefer sterilizing my tanks with the hot water method that Itty Bitty Betta described- just to play it safe.

I can't read your post because of the colour.

In answer to the question, I woudn't even have had a betta in anything that small.

Sorry.
